Who was Tehya?

All of my animals have been, and continue to be, a significant part of my life. Tehya played a very integral role in my pursuit of Animal Reiki and my practice has continued to evolve with her ongoing guidance.

Over the years, I’ve been fortunate enough to share my life with a number of animals. Each one of them has significantly touched my heart. Tehya was one of the special dogs in my life.
Tehya was a golden retriever whose name means “precious”.  She was smart, funny, playful, loving, compassionate, friendly.  The list goes on. She loved people and other animals. I remember when Tehya and one of our other special goldens, Brandy, were standing at the base of a tree looking at an injured bird. They were calm and gentle, just standing and watching.
Tehya and I were also a therapy dog team at a local hospital. Her presence was loving, kind, and gentle with the patients and staff we visited.
Along the way, I started learning about animal communication and decided I wanted to learn how to be an animal communicator. Tehya always wanted to be part of my sessions. At first, I was frustrated as I found this distracting. After some time, I realized she was there as a helper and was grateful for her help. I then learned about Animal Reiki and decided to practice this as well. I thought that would be secondary to animal communication.
One day my life changed drastically. We began the day with Tehya by our sides and by the day’s end were unexpectedly having to say good-bye. Unbeknownst to us, she had a fatal form of cancer. That was one of the, if not the, most painful day(s) of my life.
This lead me to a time of tremendous self-reflection and some very serendipitous events related to animal communication and animal reiki. Tehya was an integral part of how that unfolded and it became clear to me that animal reiki was to be my primary focus.  I pursued more training in animal reiki and became an animal reiki practitioner and teacher.
When I think about Tehya, I think about how she truly radiated light. The light of love and compassion. Genuine goodness. The name “Tehya’s Light” is a tribute to Tehya’s light. Her light guided and continues to guide me.
